COURSES FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
Courses in English taught at the Literary Academy fall into two groups:
-
language courses (some of them focus on the development of specific skills),
-
specialization courses (Anglo-American literature and culture, media, publishing and editing).
For practical purposes, the courses are listed in the same way as in the LA internal course catalogue (divided into years); but incoming Erasmus students can choose any courses from the list which correspond to their level (BA or MA). If space permits, BA students may also choose MA courses. When choosing a course, the language level is more important than the year. For instance, for an advanced international student, a 1st-year upper-intermediate course is more suitable than a 3rd-year intermediate one. The skill-oriented language courses (reading comprehension, essay writing etc.) always involve a grammar and vocabulary component, too. The outcome level (the end of the 3rd year) of the BA language courses is B2 according to the Common European Framework; the outcome level (the end of the 2nd year) of the MA language courses is C1.
The following is the preliminary list of courses for the academic year 2012/2013; the numbers of ECTS credits are given in brackets. In the summer semester, some courses end with an oral exam. These exams are optional for Erasmus students, and extra ECTS credits can be gained for them. Other assignments (essays etc.) to gain additional ECTS credits can be agreed on an individual basis.
Incoming Erasmus students are asked to arrive a week before the start of the semester. Since the Literary Academy is a small university, there is no organized induction programme; in the week before the semester starts, students meet Daniel Soukup (Vice-Rector for International Relations), either individually or in a small group, and create their timetable. They sign up with each teacher in the first week of the semester (there is no electronic sign-up system).
